San Francisco, 1999

It's a town
full of kids running
across streets

hand in hand
speaking
in almost cartoon voices
to each other

singing Marvin Gaye songs
on the 26 at 10 o'clock
on a Monday night

talking for free
on the phone
at Kinko's

drinking, smoking,
pouring beers
down their
sore throats

making their copies
and doing their laundry
to the rhythm of a
fifteen-year-old song
