Indian Summer

After too many

peanut butter

pancakes, thick as

the warm October night

air easing into our booth

through the small half-open

window, around the water glasses

made of scratched

clear plastic

We sit quietly

near one another in

the haze of a misplaced

Indian summer night,

next to roommates

we like,

our early evening breakfast

finished,

no sunset for us

tonight

  1. Sorry, was out of town, down the road, and off the grid. But I finally got here so no more excuses.

Hard to get my teeth around the "thick/warm - pancakes/night" without gagging. But then realism always did get in my way. Nice images. Nice use of the juxtapose. Felt the warmth as the sun was going down somewhere else besides the somewhat crowded booth with the now empty plates.

Ya know Jesus had pancakes at the last supper. But they weren't peanut butter.

    Or was it waffles?
