Children on the street
dressed like circus performers
gaze wide-eyed & curious
into the darkness of doorways
Hands throbbing tight, they hike
to the one street they know
Pride weekend making wobbly zealots
of BART-riding teens
drunk in the fading light, making it
to or from somewhere or somewhere else
