Plantation Fanfare in Oils

Plantation sand dabs
land crabs in soft shell
like soft shoe done to a tune
a wind chime of runes
fluted memory of baboons

plantation sand castles
whip marks and old tools
hand-crafted slab tassels
scuttle like broke-leg'd tap dancers
in well-worn pants, tuxedo stripe'd

down the back & up the front
the main drive rife
with the blackened sheen
of gulf leak residue
tar-footed sad examples

sand dabs, baby crabs, crawdaddy dags
slimy iridescence
claw marks and whip marks
exclaiming unclaimed rights
right in front of you
